Nudism
It was a cool yet bright blue sky which welcomed me on this April morning, and I decided to drive down to Chiemsee, the lake to the south-west of the city of Munich in Bavaria. There's a pleasant little nudist club on the south side of the lake, near Ubersee, that I wanted to visit later on for lunch, but first I had an urge to get a walk behind me. Finding a convenient start point where I could leave my car, I made my way to the banks of the river, removing all my clothes, except sunhat and boots, and putting them in my rucksack. The path took me along a flat trail, through a lightly wooded area. I walked north, following the river bank as it nipped under the main carriageway. There was no wind and the sun beat down on me relentlessly.
Alps to the South Riverside Chiemsee Lake
Walking along the riverside was interesting, because there were 3 parallel choices. The first was to walk along the actual riverbank itself, as in the photo, which was a faint track clearly not often used. The second was to walk along the top of the embankment, which acted as a flood barrier, the tree in the photo is growing part way up it. The third was the gravelled track on the other side of the embankment, at the same level as the riverpath. On the other side of the gravel track was a thick wood, and on the other side of that lay large sweeping fields. In all, even though the main road passed over the bridge behind me, it was a very quiet place, with just the occassional burring of a low flying plane, and the continual background twittering of birds in the trees, to disturb the almost magical quiet. I walked along this riverbank for perhaps an hour before reaching the bird sanctuary sign, where the path becomes more difficult, and stopped for a biscuit and a drink before turning around and heading back the way I had come. On the return trip, I decided to take the high road, atop the embankment, which promised an alternative view of the surroundings. Although there was a very slight breeze here, this did not disturb the blazing Spring sunshine, and I was very warm as I tramped along the easy trail, taking in the view of the distant alpine foothills in front of me to the south, and gazing idly at the trees to right of the river and left of the embankment. A lady jogger passed me going in the opposite direction, quietly, probably listening to some loud music on her headphones, the wire dangling from her tied-back hair to a box perched on her tight and colourful lycra outfit. Otherwise I saw no-one else for the entire walk, it was very peaceful, and a pleasant interlude. Having returned to my car I made my way around to the nudist club for the promised lunch and stayed a short while to wander along the lake shore. The sun stayed bright, and the sky remained blue, the whole day long - a marvelous day!

Let's not forget Steve Gough, Vincent Bethell, and Terri Sue Webb, for their singular battles against ignorance and prejudice in our allegedly enlightened Europe of the 21st century.
