The Law is an
ASS
Let's take a brief look at the state of the
legal
profession around the Europe, and the sort of sensible behaviour that has been
encouraged over time in the name of so-called civilized nations. Remember,
these examples represent the decisions of the status-quo of the time, in each
and every single case. They represent the established thought of the majority
of the people, and were backed up by the full power of the police force, or
equivalent authority, of the era. The next time someone says to you: "That's
illegal - you can't do that!" - try to think about it
for a moment, instead of just agreeing mindlessly like the proverbial, and
highly misrepresented, lemming. Perhaps you could take a reading tour through
our
links page.
- Europe (200 BC): The Philosopher
Socrates
is sentenced to death by suicide, (via drinking Hemlock), for discussing
unpopular ideas.
Of course that was an ancient example, things are different now, these things
could never happen in the modern world - over 2,000 years later - in civilized
Europe...
- USA (1692): The Salem Witch Trials have got to be read to be believed:

Of course those were historically special cases, things are different in the
twentieth century...
- Europe (1930): The Australian Annette
Kellerman, (the so-called million-dollar-mermaid, was arrested as she dove
into the English channel, while attempting to swim across to France. She was
wearing a full racing swimsuit, her body covered from neck to groin, shoulder
to shoulder and side to side. Still, the police swarmed around and covered her
with towels and greatcoats, before dragging her off to face the legal wrath of
the local judiciary.
- USA (1935): 42 men were prosecuted in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for appearing
in public wearing topless bathing suits...
- Europe (1941): A young girl (Sophie Scholl) and her
brother are sentenced to death by hanging, (and executed), because they
distributed non-government-approved leaflets. Unpopular ideas again: they were
trying to make people realise that it was wrong to indiscriminately kill a
minority (jewish) population, and were exterminated because they dared to
confront the accepted status-quo of the time.
-
America (1940's): Men Arrested for wearing 'Topless Swimsuit' - Indecent Exposure
Of course those examples were historical aberations, pinpricks in the manifest
destiny of Man, things are different now, things like that could never happen
in the modern world...
- Europe (1960): In Great Britain a man could be arrested and punished with a
prison sentence, unless he could prove archery practice during the
past week.
Of course those examples were historical, things are diffent now, these things
could never happen in the modern world, in the 21st Century...
